The 2017-18 school year is coming to a close, and it was a memorable one for Frisco ISD sudent-athletes. As we head into the summer, here’s a recap of some of the top athletic accomplishments by FISD teams during this school year.
Teams from FISD won three University Interscholastic League state championships:
In November, the Liberty High School girls cross country team won the Class 5A championship. It was the first team championship in Liberty’s history, and the first FISD girls cross country state title since former Superintendent and Coach Dr. Rick Reedy led Frisco High School to the title in 1982.
In April, the Wakeland High School boys and girls soccer teams each won a 5A state championship, giving the school a rare sweep of the titles. Wakeland became the first school to win UIL boys and girls soccer championships in the same year since 1985.
In addition to the champions, the District had four other teams finish in the top three in state. The Centennial High School boys golf team finished second in 5A and the Lebanon Trail High School girls golf team, with a roster of freshmen and sophomores, finished second in 4A. The Liberty High School boys wrestling team finished third at the 5A state meet, and the Heritage High School girls track team finished third at the 5A state meet. Dozens of FISD student-athletes also earned individual medals at UIL state meets.
