Frisco ISD Coaches Honored

FISD | 5/25/2018

At the end-of-the-year meeting of coaches Wednesday night, Frisco ISD Athletic Director David Kuykendall thanked District coaches for all their hard work. He also pointed out how the 2017-18 school year was another successful one for the District.

“We’ve got a pretty good thing going here,” he told the crowd of coaches in the Frisco ISD Administration Building Board Room.

FISD did have a very good thing going during this school year. The District produced three state team champions: the Wakeland boys and girls teams in soccer, along with the Liberty girls cross country team. Two other teams finished second in state competition, three were third, and the District produced dozens of individual state medalists.

The coaches who played a role in those achievements were honored Wednesday, along with one coach who is retiring after a long and distinguished career as teacher and coach. Iseed “Sid” Khoury, who led the Wakeland girls soccer team to the 5A state championship this season, was given a plaque to thank him for his 36 years of service in education, including the last five years at Wakeland.

“This is a man of great character,” Wakeland football coach and campus athletic coordinator Marty Secord said in his salute to Khoury. “This is a man who had a great impact on the young ladies that he’s coached.”

During a 17-year run at Denton High School, Khoury led the girls soccer team to a pair of state titles. He took over at Wakeland in 2013 and led the Wolverines to the playoffs each year. In his final season, Khoury watched his team knock off undefeated defending state champ Highland Park during the Wolverines’ march to the state title.

“I enjoyed every minute that I spent at Wakeland High School,” Khoury said. “It was so much fun dealing with every coach because of their professionalism, their demeanor, and their love for Wakeland High School and love for Frisco ISD.”
