Frisco ISD athletes won medals in 11 individual events, plus another in a relay Friday at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Meet. Among those 12 medals were five golds, and the Heritage High School girls finished third in the 5A team standings.
A pair of FISD athletes won multiple gold medals in the 5A competition at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. Frisco High School’s Simone Watkins swept the girls hurdles events, beating the field in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles. Heritage’s Bailey Lear won the 400 meters, and she also was part of Heritage’s winning 4x400 relay team that included Jaidyn McCallon, Peyton Jones and Jaidah McCallon. Lear also finished second in the 200.
The other FISD state champion was Independence High School’s Terry Smith, who won the 300 hurdles. Four more FISD athletes earned medals Friday: Liberty High School’s Carrie Fish (second in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200), Reedy High School’s Colleen Stegmann (second in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600), Frisco’s Whitney Williams (second in the 400) and Heritage’s Brooke Shepherd (second in the 300 hurdles).
Heritage finished third in the 5A girls team standings and Frisco was fifth. Liberty was 11th and Reedy was 13th.

Girls high jump: Nissi Kabongo, Liberty, finished fifth with a height of 5-4
Girls 3,200 meters: Colleen Stegmann, Reedy, finished second with a time of 10:46.88
Girls 3,200 meters: Carrie Fish, Liberty, finished third with a time of 10:49.80
Boys 3,200 meters: Nick Hendrix, Wakeland, finished ninth with a time of 9:58.10
Boys pole vault: Michael Schmuhl, Heritage, finished fourth with a height of 15-9
Girls 800 meters: Isabella West, Wakeland, finished sixth with a time of 2:16.65
Boys 800 meters: Dylan Evans. Heritage, finished sixth with a time of 1:57.90
Girls 100-meter hurdles: Simone Watkins, Frisco, won the title with a time of 14.05
Boys 110-meter hurdles: Terry Smith, Independence, finished fourth with a time of 13.86
Girls 400 meters: Bailey Lear, Heritage, won the title with a time of 53.34
Girls 400 meters: Whitney Williams, Frisco, finished second with a time of 55.33
Girls 300-meter hurdles: Simone Watkins, Frisco, won the title with a time of 43.41
Girls 300-meter hurdles: Brooke Shepherd, Heritage, finished second with a time of 43.97
Boys 300-meter hurdles: Terry Smith, Independence, won the title with a time of 37.36
Girls 200 meters; Bailey Lear, Heritage, finished second with a time of 23.74
Girls 1,600 meters: Carrie Fish, Liberty, finished second with a time of 5:01.53
Girls 1,600 meters: Colleen Stegmann, Reedy, finished third with a time of 5:01.86
Boys 1,600 meters: Nick Hendrix, Wakeland, finished fifth with a time of 4:22.73
