The Wakeland football team only allowed 14 points Friday night, but the defensive performance of Lone Star won the game at Ford Center.

Lone Star, which has allowed a total of 25 points all season, shut out Wakeland. The Rangers' 14-0 victory improved their record to 4-1 and 2-0 in District 5-5A Division I.

Wakeland is now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in 5-5A Division II.

Lone Star scored late in the second quarter on a 21-yard run by Darrin Smith and late in the third quarter on a 23-yard pass from Julian Larry to Sam Varner.

The defenses had the upper hand most of the night as a good-sized crowd watched the matchup of teams in The Dallas Morning News' 5A area rankings. Lone Star is ranked No. 2 and Wakeland No. 11.
