Frisco ISD Soccer Teams Prepare For More Playoff Success

A year ago, the Wakeland High School boys and girls soccer teams won 5A titles. So how rare a feat is it for one school to win the boys and girls soccer titles in the same year?

Well, the last time it happened before Wakeland did it, many people who are reading this weren’t yet born. For those of us who were around when it last happened, Ronald Reagan was just beginning his second term as President, the first Blockbuster video hadn’t yet opened and the second high school in Frisco ISD was still 18 years away.

It was 1985.

Thirty-four years later, as the University Interscholastic League soccer playoffs get ready to begin, Frisco ISD now has 10 high schools. The District also has a reputation as a soccer hotbed, and that reputation has grown over the last three years of playoff runs.

Wakeland has been a shining star, but the District’s soccer success goes deeper than that. In the last three seasons, 12 FISD teams have made it to at least the regional quarterfinals, where in some cases District teams squared off.

In the last three seasons, FISD soccer teams have won a whopping 52 playoff matches. Here’s the breakdown:
